Blackwood Engineering

Blackwood Engineering is active in the production of cast iron components, such as counterweights and other heavy machine parts.

From their facility in Dilsen-Stokkem, they provide customized solutions for OEM customers in sectors such as construction, agriculture and material handling. Their focus is on quality, reliability and efficient delivery.

Sima implemented a custom-made installation, including a spray booth and a spacious flash-off zone with a total area of over 150 m². The booth is equipped with horizontal ventilation and integrated ceiling and wall lighting, while the flash-off zone uses diagonal ventilation.

All equipement was carefully integrated into existing infrastructure, including the overhead cranes.

Energy Efficiency was a key focus of this design. By applying heat recovery during the spraying, flash-off and drying processes, the heat from the extracted air is reused. This reduces energy costs and makes the operation more sustainable.

For the heating of the drying process, an electric battery was chosen, allowing precise temperature control and immediately accommodating a fossil-free future.

Additionally, during the design phase of the booth, provisions were made to allow the integration of a spray robot in the future. The current setup is suitable for manual operation but allows for easy automation later, without major structural modifications.

The collaboration with Blackwood Engineering went very smoothly and professionally. Thanks to clear communication and mutual trust, we were able to complete the project within the agreed timeframe. We look back on this project with satisfaction and thank Blackwood Engineering for their trust.
